Need help with Sprint cellular service
#11
if the cellular provider isn't keeping their side of the deal, then you should be able to get out of the contract. How can they force you to pay for a service if you cannot get a signal where you are located at? You can't be forced to pay for something you cannot even use..

Call again, and escalate the call. Ask to speak to a supervisor. If they don't help you, go higher. The proper thing that needs to be done is a service order needs to be set up, and someone needs to come physically check service at your location.
I know it'* a pain, but it can be done.

Little update here.....
Sprint finally put in a service order after my repeated requests. A technician came out and found that my area is indeed a "fringe" service area. He says they'll have a new tower in service by the third of fourth quarter of 2007 to improve coverage.
Obviously, that'* a freakin' year away. So I called them today and requested them to cancel my account and waive the early termination fee, since their service is unusable to me at home. Of course, they replied that they couldn't do it, and the 2-year service agreement is binding. According to them, there'* nothing else they can do for me.
So, in summary, they sent a technician out to verify that I was not lying about my crappy service, then told me they have no solutions to offer, aside from waiting for their stupid asses to build a tower. I'm in the same goddamn boat I was in before I even called them. What a bunch of bullshit.
I did not cancel my service yet, as I am determined to get out of this contract without paying them an extra red cent. I filed complaints with the FCC and BBB, but I don't know if that will get my desired result. I need more suggestions if you folks have any. There is no arguing with these people, even though I was talking to a supervisor in the cancellation department. Aside from refusing to pay my bill, what else can I do? They have already acknowledged that their service sucks in my area, but they refuse to let me go! GODDAMMITALLTOHELL!!!!!!!

Do what I did (not knowing the results at the start) and use the majority of your minutes out of your home/local calling area.
Cingular (my provider) threatened to drop me if I didn't use the majority of my minutes (National/no roaming plan) in my local calling area... I couldn't as I used the phoen for 3-4 hrs a day for work which NEVER has me in my local calling area.
They threatened in June, and also stated that because of this issue I could cancel w/out a early termination fee.... I continued on and in September they dropped me and ate my final bill ($3xx for my last month) ..."Because it was cheaper to eat my bill than to continue to pay other providers for my use of their towers."

Cingular is pretty good for letting you out for lack of coverage. Sprint is known NOT to.
There are plans on the internet for home-built repeaters for cheap or free. Try that if you absolutely cannot get out of your contract.
Follow the advice here, and ask for supervisor, manager, district manager, etc, on each consecutive call.

Thanks for the tips, guys
Marty... I'm just going to wait until after 7pm when my free minutes kick in, then call every person I know on roaming. And I'm going to keep doing that every night until they let me out of this crap contract. They actually suggested that I try roaming since their PCS signal sucks, but I told them I'm not paying for crappy roaming voice quality. I'm paying for their PCS network. Well, if they want me to try roaming, I'll try roaming

Problem resolved! After a complaint issued through the FCC and Better Business Bureau, Sprint called me today and let me know I would be let out of my contract, along with a waiver of early termination fees! Oh blessed day! Oh glorious victory!
The only stipulation is that my wife and I need to mail them our phones. I'm not exactly sure how this helps Sprint, but whatever. I have no use for a Sprint phone if I'm switching to a different network. This is awesome! Now the only thing left is to choose another provider....
