I've always pronounced it miss-iss-saw-guh, the proper way!

I've grown up in the same area all my life in Toronto, right where one of the busiest highways in the country and the busiest highway in the world meet. I have fond memories of things I've done in Mississauga. Every fall, my dad, brother, and I go down to Erindale Park for the salmon fishing in the Credit River. In fact, on one of the days I went, I passed right by Square One on the way home....

... right past an ongoing Bonneville Club meet

... I think i'll respond to parts of that article:

If you were an outstanding high school athlete, you could hope to have your exploits written up in one of the Toronto newspapers. But you also knew that unless you set some type of record, the kid from Central Tech or Northern or Eastern Commerce would draw more attention from the media.
Central Tech is our (Northview Heights) arch-rival in the high school skills competition every year at the autoshow. I placed 5th this year, and they won... again

The four towering smokestacks at the Lakeview Generating Station? How'* that for a landmark? Or what about the underground stream that spills out onto Mississauga Rd., just south of Dundas St. W.?
man, that underground stream is one of the big things I remember about Mississauga, just west of Erindale Park. Dad would commonly drive past it on the way down to the lake from the park... holy cow, there are some NIIIIIIIIICE houses down there

I can't tell you how many girls I knew in high school who vowed they would never date guys from 'Sauga (although maybe they just didn't want to date me). Toronto guys were more exciting and sophisticated, they reasoned.
yay, I'm exciting and sophisticated

I feel your pain, Jim. Overshadowed by us folks just east of ya
