In MN it costs $21 bux to get your Motorcycle Permit, which you get after the written test. With the permit you can't ride with passengers, on the interstates, at night, or without a helmet.

The Road test is pretty easy......a lot of low speed handling skills demo and quick decision making....There'* 2 ways you can do it.....Schedule the road test with your DMV, or see if the Colleges down there have a deal with the state, you pay x amount of money after you have a permit, and you can take a class and the skills test, and get your Endorsement without even owning a bike......and you get an insurance break.

I don't really like crotch rockets.....Just because of what they're capable of, comfort, and insurance cost. I have no desire to go 180+mph on Two tires.

I just got a '08 Harley Davidson Road King last week....and I pay $415 per YEAR for that....Crotch Rocket you're probably looking into the $1000+/year mark.

Are you going to bring the bike to the WCBF?

Depending on what you get, and considering his record...that'* a good estimate. There are other options, though.

edit: but it'* worth every penny...

Chromius, do you have a Your Other Ride thread in which you've whored your bike? The closer Haro gets to buying a bike, the more "someone got hurt in a motorcycle crash" posts I expect. He'll need inspiration.

I too would reccomend an SV650. Great starter bike. Not too much to handle. Naked bikes have low insurance rates.

Yeah, I love my SV so far, it'* barely getting warm enough to ride, finally putting some miles on it. I put exhaust on it, I love the V-twin sound, and with it being a naked bike and only a 650, I'm not too worried about insurance. Oh yeah, Washington doesn't require insurance on bikes.

Rod, yeah, I'll either be bringing it down or riding it down. It'* more comfortable than a full out crotch rocket, but it ain't as comfortable as a cruiser. You bringin yours again?

/off topic

Bikes are fun! Safety, or lack thereof, is just something that comes with riding....in the end it'* up to you if the risk is worth the reward.

I've actually only got about 5 pics of it. I wanted my girlfriend to take pictures of me on it, but I'm too ascared to ask. Chances are he'* already looked over the risks of a bike. It'* all about defensive driving, and thinking ahead. If you're good at driving on the road, you'll know what to expect on a bike.

Go take a test ride or something, that will put you over the edge.

LOL a 999 is hardly a "frugal" bike.

An old cruiser or SV as mentioned are some of the best to start out learning on.
