i have been brought um to use maam and sir. unfortunately, society today can hardly handle it. i have, on more than one occasion, refered to someone substantially older than me as "sir" only to have them tell me, "hey, don't call me that...that'* my dad!" truth is, i will continue to behave as i was brought up to behave. and no one out there has a right to tell me i cannot...so when people do that to me, i answer back "yes massa!" just to jab em a little. works every time.
It is called having good manners. It doesn't matter the age, it is just a showing of respect. I don't mind being called ma'am cuz I sure have been called a whole lot worse
