Default Looking at a car...

Opinions please...
My sis is looking for a car to drive back & forth to work to replace her '97 Maxima she sold. One of the cars she'* looking at is a '02 Nissan Altima. Its nice, fully loaded - however, the catch is that the car has been in an accident 2x. Its being sold by a Nissan dealer who didn't try to hide the fact that its been hit twice - once in the front on the rightside - and once in the back. The damage to the car has been all fixed/restored so it looks nice. My only caution is that I know [from reading on here ] that a car accident can do more than just cosmetic damage. The car has about 1k miles of the manufacture'* warranty left and is being sold by a Nissan dealer.

good, bad, or ugly?

It wouldn't hurt to look around for another car a little more. I wouldn't rush into anything when buying a car. But accidents aren't always the end of the world. If there was no frame damage or anything extremely major, or if it was fixed properly, then things should be ok. I'd inspect it closely, or get a mechanic to inspect it all over. Do you know the extent of the damage that it did have from the accidents?

With that being said I'd look around for another car. Or if she really wants an Altima, try and find another one.

She'* been looking at cars for a while and kinda has a Nissan fixation lol. She likes this car b/c it has all the options and plus they discounted it b/c of the accidents. The extent of the damage isn't noted on CarFax...just that it was hit in those 2 areas [on different dates] and was fixed both times. Our guess is that there wasn't any major frame damage or anything that would require serious repair as the car was a lease, and the dealer wouldn't bother with attempting to deal with fixing damage like that, right?

The actual dealer is closed today, so she'll be calling them tomorrow and asking questions about the accidents and who did the repairs...

And if it'* an honorable dealership I don't think they'd sell something that had major hidden damage and wasn't safe to drive. Of course you still should be careful. If it has the 3.5 and it has no frame damage I'd hit it.

its got the 3.5 and the CarFax does report that there wasn't any frame damage and the car has a clean title. So she'* gonna call tomorrow and if all sounds good might put the car on hold until we can go up to North jerz to look at it. She was close to getting a 4cyl version the other day, and decided to wait and today she saw this one for about the same price.
thanks for the input, i'll update u guys later on
