I'm guessing its on a partition that wouldn't NORMALLY be deleted. For example, new computers now ship the OS on a partition, instead of including a CD.

yea it seems like a good idea, but really... maybe they could somehow put it in the bios or somethin... A true free way to protect your laptop is to put a HDD password on it. cant format it then. cept ive only come across one laptop with those kind of capabilities. I wouldnt waste my money on this

What sort of handshake would that have with the "newly" formatted operating system?

Actually I'm thinking that it could be pulled off if you did a handshake between a partition and the BIOS.

I have no idea...I know nothing about computers. I was just throwing it out there hoping someone would run with it.

I wonder if theres a way to actually lock a partition into never being formatted or changed w/o proper authority

the only cool thing about that, is that if someone steals it and its not found. they refund everything you spent on lojack.


They have to do something using the mac address which is easily changed.

It would be better to put some programming on a NON FLASHABLE ROM CHIP soldered to the motherboard since you could remove the hard drive.
