A little help with some work related stuff...
Has anyone ever heard of a 5S program? this is something that my place is trying to implement, and they want me to kind of take charge of maintaining it...
well i have a book to read about it, haven't read it yet though. just wondering if anyone had any tips for me. I know that whats in a text book isn't always the best way to do things in the real world.

After doing some online research, I wish my company would do something like this.
Heres what I got from it in short (If its the same thing your talking about)
v Sort - remove all items from the workplace that are NOT needed for current production.
v Set in Order - arranging needed items so that they are easy to find and put away. Items used often are placed closer to employee.
v Shine - making sure everything is clean, functioning, and ready to go.
v Standardize - the method you use to maintain the first 3S'*.
v Sustain - making a habit of properly maintaining correct procedures.

yup that would be them. it all sounds nice and all, but WOW... I'm going to have to turn a company that hasn't done ANY of that into one that is a model of that. don't really even know where to begin. At least i have one thing going for me, we just moved from one building to another so its kind of a fresh start.

I would think to implement something like this, you would have to have a company wide meeting/presentation to bring in the other employees as to what you expect form them and how the 5S works.
Then set a date when you plan to roll out the program and thats when you implement it and do whats necessary to complete the 5S'*

at first it will be a huge pita, but then after everyone gets usta the way things are and where everything is suposta be and blah blah blah... it will be like nothing ever changed... every thing has a place and if its not in that place find it and put it there. lahh dee do dahh day... but it was pretty cool once it was all said and done..
i just dont like how companys work one way for x many yrs then think every things gonna change overnight cause some fruitloop in a suit upstairs wants it to... not like they will even notice any b4 or after.
