I second the recommendation for using Wikipedia'* descriptions.

There are certain general characteristics for both political views, and in addition to this there are various "hot button" issues that each group has a position on. It is important to note that people who could be generally associated with one group or the other might not hold the specific position that the group is typically associated with.
