Do you see the windows XP splash screen at all?

I was mistaken, it has Windows Pro 2000. I see the loading window at the beginning, the little bar at the bottom fills up all the way to the end and stops. It just says "starting up.." and does nothing else.

What's a format reinstall and how do i do it?

To access safe mode

Remove all floppy disks and CDs from your computer, and restart your computer.
Press F8 when prompted.
If Windows XP Professional starts without displaying the menu shown in Figure 28.4, restart your computer. Press F8 after the firmware POST process completes but before Windows XP Professional displays graphical output.

On the Windows Advanced Options menu, select Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, or Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

I don't have XP, just professional 2000. And most of that stuff just flew right over my head. And the stuff that didn't, went right through one ear, out the other.

Is this Fubared Kernel anything like a popcorn kernal? And what if I can't find the emergency restore disk?
