I don't think that there is a head unit / amp included with that one. I believe it is just the five speakers and the sub.

I have a JVC 5.1 reciever and it works pretty good for me, it included those same speakers and a smaller sub with it. I ditched those speakers for Pioneer rear surrounds and center channel, some older 15" MTX floor standing front speakers and a 250 watt Cerwim Vega 12" powered sub. It will really rock out now

I don't want to get it right now. Am a little paranoid after I got my parents the $60 5.1 dvd player and it sucked bad

I got this in my living room
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=5693293

and this in my bedroom, but the previous generation before they changed the design

I can **** off the neighbors with the last one

I can **** off the neighbors neighbor with the first one

My concern isnt about volume so much as sound quality.

I mean yea, volume is freaking great but I prefer it sounds perfect

your going to need a $100+ amplifier to run that set....aka head unit also known in the HT world as a receiiver.

I will actually be looking to upgrade my reciever soon. The old JVC just don't really cut it. I want something with more connectability. it only has one optical and one digital surround input. I have surround outputs from my Dish Network reciever and my DVD player, and when I buy a PS3 I will want another input so I don't have to switch cables all the time.

Only bad thing is that the one I want will probably end up being a couple hundred bucks just for the reciever.... good thing I already have some descent speakers.

It would though, make a nice replacement set of speakers for your durabrand set
