I'm just curious about those fart cans that ricers are running on their bone stock imports.

Do they actually bring any performance gains or just there for show and horrible noise?

Doesn't they reduce backpressure too much because I'm pretty sure you need some backpressure for the motor to run good and safely.

I hear on those 4-cyl motors, backpressure really isn't a concern.

But you really don't get any power gains from those mufflers unless you do the whole exhaust, all the way up to the manifolds/headers. It'* just for sound.

its basically like putting a flowmaster or magnaflow on a Fbody or a Mustang...(although the Flowmaster can give gains to thoes cars) its for the sound

On my Integra I had a fart can, and all it did was give you a headache, and eventually melted the paint off of my body kit.

On my Focus I had a $650 HKS cat-back exhaust system that looked like a fart can, it had noticable gains and sounded good IMO(for a 4 cylinder).

I didn't notice any power increases on my car with the flowmaster...it just sounds a whole lot better.

Sounds like a V8 at idle!

Glasspacks are for redneck trucks :P

You can see a pretty decent gain on a 4cyl, but only with the higher end systems (read: not ebay junk) and generally only on the full system (at least from the manifold back, preferably with headers). Some of them actually sound nice and tuned, instead of just farty.

Some are annoying some sound good. My cuzins old Acura Intergra GS-R has a full G-reddy EVO II exhuast that car sounded good. Went 135 it once she was pulling hard tho. I actullay like that ricer because he back up his huge OZ rims with a full exhuast, headers, pcm, plugs, wires, and AEM intake. It was a fun lil car but the ride with H&R coilover and KYB shocks was kinda stiff for me now my FE2 on SLE is just right. And the FE1 on my Impala feels like I am on the clouds. **Don't really like!**
