Default Insurance question

I just got a voicemail from our car insurance. They just found, after 3+ years, that my car has my name and my mom'* name on it. We did it that way because it was cheaper for insurance at the time. But they tell me the car has to be insured under that persons name, or that person has to be added to my insurance.

Is that true?

What do I have to do to remove mom from my title?

You'll probably have to get a new title in your name only. Shouldn't be too much of a hassle, but you'll have to go to your local DMV with your mum and get it sorted out.

That will actually be a giant hassle. Between cooridinating our schedules, one of us driving an hour...

I think it cost me $55.00 to have my mom'* name removed from my title when I turned 18. That'* in PA.

Well I talked to them. They have to add a note that if there is a pay out on a claim, the check will be made out to both of us. It won't change anything else, I guess. Kinda weird though, cause when I had an accident (under parents' insurance) the check was just made out to me.
