I heard just to make ONE battery for a Prius it travels through 4 different countries all over the world. Imagine all the pollution created to transport all those batteries around.

that is what gets me with ethenol, the fossil fuel used to create, transport, use it is more then not having ethenol at all. Plus anytime you use food to make fuel, you just drive up the cost of both. (and everything in the food chain)

Ideally you wouldn't use fossil fuels to make ethanol, anyways. It'* not like refining crude oil doesn't use up energy, too. I don't see the logic in that...
At least the people developing alternative fuels are trying to change or make a difference. The fact is that we have to develop something in order to replace what'* currently in use, and it'* not just going to pop up in your head, it will take years and years of development, and trial and error. There was a time in human history when change was frowned upon, it was called the dark ages, I believe.
