Default Importing a car from Canada to the US

I have a couple questions about importing a car from canada to the US. First, has anyone done and and what was involved? I know it has to meet US emissions standards, but I think most canadian cars do.

For those members who have 87-91 and 92-99 canadian cars, is there a sticker under the hood that states it meets US emissions? I was told if this is on the car it is easier to get in.

I've seen a couple good deals on cars right over the border from me, but I have been told custom'* is a rough, so before I start actually considering looking over there, I might as well find out about how hard it is. Thanks.

When I was looking to get a truck from the U.*., one thing that I was told was that I had to have the ownership at the border crossing a few days ahead of time, maybe a week. I know that cars coming into Canada HAVE to have DRL ( daytime running lights), so they have to have the unit installed.

As for going to other way, I am not sure. I never seen a sticker, but then again I was never looking for it.

Do you know what the sticker looks like Geoff? I will go look if we can ascertain some basic description of it.

Yes, my car has that same sticker Logan. IF that'* all it is, then 99.9% of Canadian cars have that too.

Yea, that is the sticker I am looking for. I would have gone and checked mine, but they are both in binghamton now.

Will, since I live 1.5 hrs driving from canada (or 1 ferry ride from Toronto) I see a lot of very good deals just over the border. And unfortunately, most of the bonnevilles in Rochester are beat. Not really looking at any now since I need to finish school, but is nice to know incase I find one nearer to when I graduate.

From what I gather, 87-91 Bonnevilles may not be legal to go from US to Canada (I remember seeing it on Canada'* Customs site), because we've got b-pillar mounted belts, you guys have door-mounted ones.

And for some reason, something along the lines of "May not comply to US standards" or "Does not comply to US standards" is in the back of my head. If only I could check right now, I'm at school.
