I will Echo the sentiments of others (pun intended). You cant go wrong with Husqvarna, Stihl, or Echo, all 3 of which I believe are Swedish-made saws, but dont quote me on that.


My dad'* Echo got passed on to my Grandpa, and it actually still runs, he just wanted something better, that Echo is every bit of 15 years old, if not more, I remember my dad using it when I was just a little guy, and it wasnt new then.

My dad has had a Stihl for several years now, and it has been great.

Ive got a friend who does landscaping and tree-trimming and such, and he swears by Husqvarna, so I really dont think you can go wrong with any of them.

Keep with the approach youre taking with buying a saw at a brick and mortar store. Often the prices arent much different, and youll get better service if something ever breaks.

Take it from someone who works on them a lot, avoid Poulan like the plague. They are NOT what they used to be. Poulan (Craftsman is made by Poulan) is, unfortunately, considered a throw away saw now, just like Mcculloch and homelite (both Mexican owned now). I have a Stihl MS270 which is awesome to use, and just as easy to work on. Husqvarna and Jonsered are the same company made in Sweden, both excellent saws. Echo is considered mid grade now, quality is going down to get them into the big box stores. IMO if you want a saw to get the job done for a couple years (or less) go cheap. just don't ask for parts for it.

If you want a saw to get a LIFETIME out of, got wit heither the Stihl, Husky, or Jonsered. Their dealer support is first rate also, which matters if you ever need a part.
