Yeah, heat can be an issue... i've had the same WRT54GS since like 2002. Still works perfectly. Linksys has never let me down.

I stacked 4 linksys gigabit routers in a switched pattern inside of a cabinet. Opened it up after about 2 days and it felt like an oven. They didn't shut down or fail though!

I would have to agree on the Linksys routers. I have two of them that were working just fine for 3 years (one was used and is a series 2) until I switched to a WRT54GS wireless one with no problems from it as of yet.
