The meijer checkouts totally suck here, SLOW AS HELL! and something always goes wrong. The other problem is the checkout people always want to talk about something.. and make comments about food.. and because I love food, some say are you having a party or something? that'* a lot of food, response: no, my son loves food.

Personally, I like 'em. It usually is quicker and avoids the chance of getting the occasionally nasty cashier. Grumpy people just annoy me.

Anyway, I used the express humanless checkout, and there was a woman standing behind a checkout station watching over the machine, in case something went wrong or whatever. Its seemed pretty ineffiecient to have to pay someone to watch idiots use an idiot box
Yeah, but they usually have four check outs and one person. Since that eliminates the need for three cashiers, it really is efficient.

The only problem with the self checkouts is... you get some people who use them, that have NO CLUE WHATSOEVER about what they are doing. So it takes them and extra 10 minutes to get out of there.

well, you gotta start somewhere. You gotta learn to walk before you can run. No one started out as experts with the machines. I've seen that the older generation tends to shy away from the machines. I showed my mother how to use them but she didn't care too much for them.

I showed my mom how to use them also, but I love food too much to go to them.. we always have over $200 grocery bill.. so I don't think the self checkout bs 'll work for us

The self checkouts are more "efficient" for the store because they can hire 1 person to watch over the machines instead of 10 people to be cashiers. They're not there for a convenience to the customer really, they're only there to save the STORE money!
Personally, I'm indifferent to them.. If lines with people are all full, I"ll just go to the do-it-myself ones. But if there'* aperson available I go to them to show support for their job. lol. Kids need jobs like those but they are quickly going away. This is only adding to the unemployment for younger people.

I must say that I do like them, especially at our Wal mart, I can minimize the time spent in that crap-shack. I just like the ability to run in grab a few items and run out without saying one word. Now if I'm going in a store to shop(as in more than 5 items) I'll use the human-operated lines, I'm lazy and don't like to scan that many items.

in chicago which is where i am from, i can see the need for the fast paced environment and everyone wanting to get out of there. In MS, not so much of a need. we had them at our K mart here and i tried to teach granddad how to use it and he liked it until we went out the door and his merchandise set off the alarm because nothing told us to decode the sensor. He hated them after that. Our Kmart is so slow that they got rid of them and only have one cashier in the middle, one at the service desk and one at the garden center. at night they only have one cashier so we usually dont go there. Super Walmart hasnt got them yet here but our rinky dink walmart in Booneville, a town half the size of here has them and my family down there hates them!!! It is so funny!!!! NE ways, i said all that to say this, SHOP WALGREENS!!! that is where i work and we strive to serve our customers with our seven service basics!!! (thats what is says on our reciepts and at my store, we follow it). In my opinion, if it wasnt for the customer, i wouldnt have a job!!!!!

Yep, its cheating someone out of a job, and I cant remember the last time I heard of any upper management of these giant retailers having to apply for state assistance or sending thier kids to school on financial aid. It benefits the fat cats and stockholders, no one else.

Please forgive me if my opinion seems strong
