The detailing business makes sense to me. My father-in-law does it too. I think he undercharges, but then he usually gets tips. And, like mentioned above, it'* all word of mouth.

not sure what kind of area you live in but you may look into some sort of internship. Thats how my company hires people here... you pretty much start out as an intern and move up from there. Interns usually don't make as much as a direct hire but it still isn't bad. I'm working a job as a lab tech, you don't need college degrees for this, and the money is darn good too!

If you liked the job, you might try throwing some apps in at other dealers. Make sure you talk to a manager when you turn it in, and explain the situation. You got a raw deal. If you want, I can post your situation over to Columbus Racing and a couple other local car clubs.

IMO, get out of the car dealership world, $5-6 an hour @ 60hrs a week

I would suggest looking to local manufacturers that don't even have any advertised openings. Usually you can make $10 starting working a line of some type. Here in mankato, there are thousands of these jobs to support the thousands of students in this college town.

My friend was making 20 an hour selling cars and he was never above the middle of the guys. this was at a GM dealership.

Hit the temp agencies, find a job driving a forklift. There are literally HUNDREDS of companies hiring lift ops in the Franklin/Fairfield/Licking county area right now. Pay is pretty decent, usually 9.00-9.50 for fitst time trainees. And lift work is usually pretty easy, if you don't mind breaking a sweat every day!

I drove a fork lift for a while. That was one of the coolest jobs I ever had. Wish I hadn't have been so stupid and screwed that one up. I Did that alot when I was younger. 
Not sure about the laws in your state, but what about a CDL. You can make good money just staying local. My cousin gets $15.00 an hour to drive a cement mixer.

if you are willing to never be at home very much i hear OTR truck drivers are in high demand. my room mate was going to go to work for CR England as a driver but he decided he had too much road rage to drive a big rig... (probably a good choice for him
