OK. But there are usually two different types of servers. Standard Web Servers and FTP servers. Most likely you are on a Standard Server. Some sites make FTP servers for high volume file transfers.

You do use the FTP for uploading files to any server, but it doesn't mean you are on a FTP server.

Hopefully, somebody else can help you out. This is all I can really share.

Your pretty much right on about the different types of servers ( or folders on the server). I know with my webhosting they give me an option for an FTP server and also for we browsing ( If I'm not mistaken). I will look into this tonight and let you know.

Ok useing and ftp prog to upload meant that the server is an ftp server that dose not mean that is all it is to let some one see the files through the ftp you would need to give them your pw and user name.

To let some one view the dir you set all of the permissions to allow exctpt for edit leave that for owner only. Then close out of the ftp prog and then go to inter net and open the sight and dir to see the dir like this http://codebusters.virtualave.net/img/

willwren, when you set up your directory with your pics/info in it have an HTML page directed to that directory. ie willwren/info. When someone is on your info page they will see yer stuff. For a detailed explanation, e-mail me. I never spent 10k on a web design course for nuthin' :?

Just remember what he is trying to accomplish is to allow directory browsing in one section so he can upload the files to that section and lett people just download them. Like an ftp server.

Most servers won't allow direct access as this leaves them open to hacking.. however there are ways to display files via a webpage or by using the .htaccess directory format.
I tried to find a site that would explain it, and heres what I came up with

http://www.cs.purdue.edu/homes/bxd/security.html

Hope this helps ...

Tell me more! I'd really like to avoid constantly updating that stupid directory every time I upload something bonneville related, and I don't have the time to format the whole damn thing in HTML.

I did the .htaccess thing, and it didn't fly. I'm gonna take another crack at this, and maybe get ahold of you this weekend if I have time. I'll be working on the car, so it'll be late that I'll be working on this.
