Default HTML help

Anyone know how to program html so that your homepage lists the server directory contents?

I'm setting up a new server directory for BC uploads....pics and scans that I upload for other people. I want everyone to be able to see the contents and access whatever images/files they want.

Help???

I might be a bit rusty at this but here goes.

1) You ned to have the server allow directory browsing. This is usually a setting in the servers configuration.

2) Lets say you want to share www.bonnevilleclub.com/pic/(everything in here). You should be able to type in www.bonnevilleclub.com/pic/ to a browser and be able to browse thru it like windows explorer.

Not sure if this is exactly what your looking for but hopefully it helps.

Yep that is what you have to have directory browsing enabled on the server. It has nothing to do with an html page. Since you are gving people access the a directory. If you do allow directory browsing, it'* all that needs to be done. So if you have the ability to get a derectory that will allow browsing, just put all you files in it an voila it'* done. Just make sure not to put any files called index.htm, or default.htm, etc... sicne those are default pages that a browser will open first.

Hope this helps.

I have some experience:

I know that some servers don't allow this, but in the directory you want people to look at your files, make a file called .htaccess in Notepad, and then put " Options Indexes " in there, minus the quotes. Then upload the file to your directory. This is how I know it, but like I said, it doesn't always work.

It will still depend on yoru server if the permissions are set to allow directory browsing. I haven't tried that option yet.

If the pages won't change to often you could always just make an html page full of file links. :?

That sucks. I know that changing permissions doesn't help unless you are writing files to that directory from the site.

I don't know what you could do. The only solution is to like above said, make a page with links, or go to ..... SHREEK! -- Geocities. They let you view it I think.

I'll do it the hard way when I have time. I've saved every page I've scanned for people, pics I've taken, etc.

Just wanted to post them where it would be easy for everyone to access them. I got some more webspace from my ISP just for this purpose. I'll figger sumthin' out. Thanks for the attempt, guys.

Ask them if they have an FTP server. You can always view files easy with an FTP server.
