my mother is living in the past

honestly, all these damn commercials about identity theft and **** have scared so many people into doing things

the thing i want to buy on ebay is 5 DOLLARS, and if i get it somewhere else its about 3 times that price, so why not just pay the 5 dollars

i told her i would make a new account at my bank, and if i want to pay for something, i would transfer the money into that account to pay for it

she says no........why......just because....one of those parent things

hell i could just do it anyways, im pretty much independent the way it is

Well, at least until the site gets hacked...
That'* why my bank account linked to PayPal is for PayPal transactions only. When I buy something using PayPal I move money into that bank account for payment. If Paypal is hacked I will not be out too musc money.

The extra bank account is free at Bank America.
Always better to be safe than sorry, BUT...

I would imagine paypal has it pretty well worked out. I would imagine they ahve a similar server as amazon.com. They have *never* had a CC number stolen from their server. It has to do with how their servers are....or so they say.

Be a man! Find your backbone and go get you an account and handle your business! I've used paypal for over 5 years now and haven't had any issues. I buy and sell on Ebay all the time. It is fast, convenient and my account has never been compromised. I highly recommend it!!

eh. before i moved out, if my mom had said no, that meant no. its not an issue of not having a backbone, for me it wouldve been the realisation that i have to sleep. and i lived with the woman, so if there was friction, theres no avoiding it.

oh, and shes my mother. to this day, if my mom told me to do something, i do it.

I commend you for that.

I didn't say she had to know about it. I encouraged my son to get his own checking account when he was 17 and taught him how to be responsible with money and taught him how to get a credit card and handle it responsibly to establish his credit. That is how he was able to get a $15000 car loan for his 2004 gp without a co-signer at a good interest rate when he was 22, he got $10000 for the gtp without a co-signer. He has credit cards and manages them maturely.

There'* always a down side. If someone disputes a transaction, Paypal freezes your account and you have no legal recourse. Your money will be tied up indefinitely.
The tip about having a separate credit card or debit card number and a dedicated bank account is good advice. Know what your getting into and don't put any more money in the system than you can afford to lose.

They only take a percentage if you are signed up for credit card acceptance. I made the change to the business account about a year ago and that is the only time they took a percentage. For example- I sold something that with shipping cost $14.99 and they took like 68 cents.

As far as paypal being foolproof I don't remember anyone saying it was, it isn't. If someone wants in bad enough they will find a way. Look at when this site was hacked recently. I change my password every so often and I never respond to the scam emails that look like they are from Paypal asking me to click their link and verify my information.
