How exactly does paypal work?
my mother is living in the past
honestly, all these damn commercials about identity theft and **** have scared so many people into doing things
the thing i want to buy on ebay is 5 DOLLARS, and if i get it somewhere else its about 3 times that price, so why not just pay the 5 dollars
i told her i would make a new account at my bank, and if i want to pay for something, i would transfer the money into that account to pay for it
she says no........why......just because....one of those parent things
hell i could just do it anyways, im pretty much independent the way it is

The extra bank account is free at Bank America.
I would imagine paypal has it pretty well worked out. I would imagine they ahve a similar server as amazon.com. They have *never* had a CC number stolen from their server. It has to do with how their servers are....or so they say.

eh. before i moved out, if my mom had said no, that meant no. its not an issue of not having a backbone, for me it wouldve been the realisation that i have to sleep. and i lived with the woman, so if there was friction, theres no avoiding it.
oh, and shes my mother. to this day, if my mom told me to do something, i do it.

I didn't say she had to know about it. I encouraged my son to get his own checking account when he was 17 and taught him how to be responsible with money and taught him how to get a credit card and handle it responsibly to establish his credit. That is how he was able to get a $15000 car loan for his 2004 gp without a co-signer at a good interest rate when he was 22, he got $10000 for the gtp without a co-signer. He has credit cards and manages them maturely.
There'* always a down side. If someone disputes a transaction, Paypal freezes your account and you have no legal recourse. Your money will be tied up indefinitely.
The tip about having a separate credit card or debit card number and a dedicated bank account is good advice. Know what your getting into and don't put any more money in the system than you can afford to lose.

As far as paypal being foolproof I don't remember anyone saying it was, it isn't. If someone wants in bad enough they will find a way. Look at when this site was hacked recently. I change my password every so often and I never respond to the scam emails that look like they are from Paypal asking me to click their link and verify my information.
