ok i have a 200 gig hdd and i just transfered everything (music, videos, pictures, files.)
to that hdd. its partitioned into 4 50gb. well i have c for my main stuff, d for my music and e is my folder. i wanta put a lock on it so you need a pasword to getinto it. anyone have a clue on how to do this?? there is some nks (not kid safe) stuff there.

i dont think you can lock an individual file without dling some additional software, and i dont know what software that would be. BUT you can lock a folder by right clicking on it, then going to the sharing tab, and click "make this folder private" and itll give you the option to create a password.

its not on a network, just seperate profiles. one for me and one for everyone else. and everyone else dont know jack about a puter. they get a pop up that says click here and well they click there. and its running like crap and needs a reboot so i just moved all my just to the other half of the hdd that wasnt being used. and when i reboot it(which is about once every 4 months) i wont have to transfer all of my stuff over to a diff hdd then back to this one agian.

I'm pretty sure there is a way to do it, let me look around and see if I remember how. It may have to be zipped.

What operating system are you using. If using Windows 2000/XP and have multiple user accounts set up (one for you, one for the kids, etc) you can use file permissions to prevent the access. That'* the easiest way to do what you're after without buying any 3rd party tools. Shoot me a PM if you have further questions.

there are programs that you can use to lock drives also, the kid next door uses one.

ok i am using xp pro and anyone logoed on can get to drive e: since it is part of the hdd.
i have it set up for me my wife and the kids. but i have yet to find out a way so the wife and kids can not get into the e: file

Just set it up as a hidden directory?
