Funny you should post this now. My division is downsizing, and they just offered Voluntary Severance to damn near everyone on the site. 2 months pay plus 1/2 a months pay for every year of service to pack your bags and walk out the door. I have 15 years, so I'd get almost 10 months pay.

Only they didn't offer me a package. Only about 10% didn't get one, but they don't expect everyone offered to take it. Out of about 4000 people here, I'm expecting 800-1000 to take it. If they don't get enough, they'll go into forced layoffs by job category, based on either seniority or performance.

We may find out today how many took the bait.
