Default GTO hype?

Hey, do you all think the GTO is over hyped? Wasn't the 02 Firebird 5.7L V8 faster? The GTO has 350hp w/ 365lbs torque vs. 310hp or optional Ram Air WS6 with 320hp w/ 340+lbs torque. The Firebird was about 300+lbs lighter also. GTO-0-60 in 5.3 vs low 5'* or just under (WS6). From what I've read, the WS6 was limited to 165mph. Has anyone ever driven either one of the V8 Firebirds and what do you think? Which style do you all think looked better? I prefer the Firebird, but there is no way my wife will let me get one now with a baby on the way. I tend to favor the Firebird.

The GTO is a MUCH better handler, and has a refined interior. The GTO has a Corvette drivetrain, with the nice 6 speed. It has independant rear suspension, and a better exhaust note

It'* not a firebird replacement though.

Right, you could take the GTO across the states and feel good and not cramped or have a bad back. Low 5'* is pretty quick; just how quick do you need to go exactly? You wil be faster then half of the cars on the road anyways.

Do I count? 39, turning 40 in November. I drive fast (not stupidfast, but fast). Actually, most 40+ year olds won't buy it, as they remember the real GTO, and don't like it'* little offspring. Talked to a lot of people at the auto show this year. The younger folks loved it, the older folks said it just wasn't a GTO....

There will be some, of course, that will buy the name. But for us older folks that still dream of owning a true muscle car, this ain't it....

i really feel that its the targeted age group on that thing... im mainly talking about the older folks that will buy the car for the novelty rather than actual daily use... kinda like the tbird, only waaaaay more capable... does anyone have any sales figures on these cars?? the same ones that first arrived at the dealer near my house a few months ago are still there and ive seen less than a handful on the streets...

wow, thats the most ive typed in a while

i dont thinks it just a name. whens the last time GM had a powerful, luxurious touring rwd coupe? its been a long time....real long. especially in the low-mid 30'*

i did see a black one driving, never saw the front, but gm should give it a more agressive look, didn't get a chance to really look at it though

I agree with the agressive look idea, but the way it handles is more like a couple and not like a muscle car. i have heard it it supposed to be a Really Smooth ride and really comfortable.
