You should also get a tape recorder and record him telling you some of these things. That way you will always be able to hear his voice. It is great what you are doing.

The only video I have of my mom talking is at my wedding. Wish I had more recordings of her voice. My dad was high tech for his time in that he had a 16mm color movie camera back in 1950 but alas no sound. Still the movies are priceless to me.

Well, it came too late guys. I gave him the memoirs on Tuesday. The hospess nurses had given him a large dose of morphine to curb some of the pain just prior to that. When I gave him the memoirs he didn't even recoznize what they were. He was on so much drugs that he didn't even recognize the younger photo of himself on the front. He was showing signs of improvement just yesterday and was eating again. just this morning we got a call at 8 am that he wasn't do wel so my dad rushed to the hospital to see him. I got a call from my dad just half an hour ago that he had passed away. It'* just a huge shock. the doctors kept saying he had a month left to live.. I never even got to say goodbye to him. The last time I saw him he was in so much pain that he was crying. He was so scared. He was so scared of dying that he couldn't sleep.. he was afraid he'd never wake up again. The cancer took its toll and he lost somewhere near 70 pounds in just a month. He withered down to nothing. This is a man who I had always looked at as a father figure. I loved him so much. It was so hard to see him helpless like that.. now he'* gone. Sorry. I just had to vent to someone. No one is home except me and I'm going to work still in 2 hours to keep my mind off of it. He was 81 years old and was a World War II veteran.

No sympathies or condolances can take away your pain, but perhaps knowing you have them from everyone here will help to ease them.
Thoughts and prayers go out for you and your family.

I am so so so sorry to hear that. At least you completed your project before he passed and at least he isn't in pain anymore. We hate to lose loved ones but we don't like to see them suffer either. When my brother passed away (in 1995 to bone cancer) he too withered away and it was so hard to watch it happen. He was 38 years old and we were very close.
Just try to remember the great times you had with him. Take care of yourself. We are here whenever you need us!
