Grandpa's Memoirs
I just got done typing 27 pages of my Grandpa'* Memoirs. He isn't doing so well and is in the hospital right now fighting colon cancer that spread into his liver, lungs, and bones. He also had complications from a loss of blood flow to his feet, so his feet died. By died, I mean literally. the tissue has turned black and has started to rot. He didn't want to worry anyone so he suffered with the horrible pain for months without telling anyone. He'* a real trooper to deal with that. it'* amazing how much you can type when you're trying to get it done as quickly as possible. Total time was 7 hours of work, including editing time.. My hands are killing me. Atleast it'* for a good cause.

(if u didnt think about doing that, do it.)
my grandfather had a heart attack while outside with his huge snowblower in the winter clearing the driveway/sidewalk, i didnt get to say goodbye
sigh.......
I am so glad that you did that! I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather but you are recording his history. Too many times loved ones pass on with memories we will never learn about. I have been writing a memory journal and have been putting down memories for my family if something should happen to me.
Your wrists will feel better but you've ensured that your past will be with you always.

That'* highly commendable indeed.
When my grandpa died, the first thing I did was write a song about him. My best one by far according to my fans. :P
It'* tough to see a man that was otherwise a strong man suffer like that. My heart goes out to you.

My dad died in January of this year. He had pulmonary fibrosis, and pancreatic cancer as well.
As his health was failing, we worked on getting together all his memoirs as well since my son(19 months) and my daughter(two weeks) will never on this earth get to know their "pap."
I really feel for ya bud. As painful as it was, it is so important to pass the stories from one generation to the next. You are helping to keep their memory alive, and that is awesome!

That'* awesome. Everyone should have special way to remember their loved ones.
My fondest memories of my Grampa are helping him work on his trucks or listening to his stories from his time as a truck driver(wich he never really stopped being in my mind, even after he gave up driving). Now every time I'm under the hood of my car or climbing up in the cab of my truck I think of him.
Words can't express the sypmathy I have for what you and your family are going through. How nice it must be though to have something of him that can be past down from one generation to the next to keep his memory alive.

thanks for the thoughts guys. (and Gals.) Just a little update, I went and visited him today and he'* doing a little better. he'* able to sit up now. (still can't walk though.) I got pictures of all the metals he'* recieved while in the service and got pictures of money he collected from all the countries he was in. He was in 32 different countries while in the service and has samples of money from each one. That was cool to see, although some of it was blood stained. I also got pictures of him and my grandmother together. I didn't tell him why I was getting the pictures though. I don't want him to know yet. I don't want him to know what I've been working on until I can present the finished work to him. I just really want him to see it. (I also will be making copies for all of his children.) I showed it to my dad and it about brought tears to his eyes to see it, especially the pictures I included from when my grandpa was young and in the army. It brought back a lot of memories for everyone.
