I miss being back in egypt. It was nice when a gallon of gas costs less than most candy bars, but then again that was before our base was car bombed and town was suicide bombed[sharm el shiekh].
I think it also has a lot to do with how our cities are setup, as well as how our residential centers are located in relation to where we work.
The way I understand it, in Europe where they have high gas prices, most people live very close to where they work, and are not required to drive everywhere they go. This is much different than here in the US where a lot of people live 5+ miles from town, let alone from where they work.
For us, this "problem" is not fixable. We are already to spread out, and it is just not practical for us to ride bikes/use public transportation.

At work we were having a talk about gas prices.
I wonder. When will Mall SUV/Pick-Up drivers finally trade em in and get normal cars that suits their life style? 3.50 a gallon? Im thinking $4 for sure. Since it would cost $160 to fill a Suburban at that price.

My Aunt has a Lexus SUV thingy.... My uncle and I had to take a trip... I almost droped dead when i found out his 3.0 V6 only got 19 mpg on the road... We had to refuel on the way back... He almost droped out when I told him my oldschool 3800 got 30-32 on the road...
Then you have Expeditions... And whats that monster truck?.... Horrible mileage...
My Other uncle has a 5.3V8 GMC truck... I think he said he was lucky if he could get 14 or 15 on the road.. For most purposes they drive the SLE bonnie tho...
