Default G8 for Canada.

It seems after a little research, that Canada will indeed be getting the G8. The 2008 model year is prohibited by Transport Canada for importation into the country. As with the GTO and Solstice (with the rear spoiler option), the ban is related to a bumper issue not meeting CMVSS. I understand this hurdle has now been overcome.

The new G8 should arrive towards the end of June but will show as a 2009 model year. No 2008 G8 for us. Personally, I'm looking forward to the GXP version that will be released (although I'm not sure exactly when).

Good to know, while I'm tired of not being able to have a GTO here, at least GM fixed the safety issue so its legal here.

When on earth are we going to FINALLY institute similar production standards for both the US and CAN, we're only the biggest trading partners, it would only make sense to have unified standards.

If I ever buy a GTO, I'll drive it to Canada so you can say that you had a GTO there.

No kidding, IIRC you can't import an 87-91 Bonneville from the US to Canada; US has door-mounted seatbelts, Canada has pillar-mounted ones.

Actually, any car older than 15 years may be imported. These limitations only apply to cars 15 years or newer. I'm not sure why this is. Perhaps there just aren't enough vehicles of this vintage coming across the border that it requires regulation.
