Default Free steak dinner to whoever solves this!!!

Ok, it'* not the bonne, but it'* electrical, and it needs to be solved ASAP!!! It'* on my stacker, which is an 89 Volvo truck. We've had the batteries disconnected for a while because we've been welding and drilling and working for quite a while, anyhow, its time to wire up the rest of the electrical. We hooked up the batteries, and it arc'd (spelling?) really bad. So we traced the short to the alternator, disconnected the alternator and the batteries didn't arc anymore, so we figured the alternator was bad. Got another one, hooked it up, same problem. Figured that my luck couldn't be bad enough to get two bad alternators in a row, so we hooked it up to one of the other trucks, no arc. This doesn't make any sense!!!! My explanation might not have either, but I gotta have this truck runnin' by Friday, and I've still got 4 days of work before it'* done! HELP!!!

And whoever solves it will get the dinner only if they come to WCBF!!

It'* not clear in the quoted sentence if you tried the battery or the new alt in one of the other trucks. I think I know the answer but I'm not going to WCBF.

We tested the alternator in the other truck. If you know the answer, you'll be besting over 200 years of mechanic/diesel engine experience, so tell me!!
