You're comparing shots with wide open aperture (f/2.8 ), which is not the sweet spot for any lens. Stop down to about f/5.6 (try aperture priority with the G7) outdoors and see what you can get.
Short of a DSLR, Canon G series is about as good as you'll get on a P&*. I do notice a tad more detail and sharpness out the Canon'* full size crop shot that you posted.

right, I understand what you are saying. But the difference is so minimal that the price difference just doesn't make sense for my situation.
I can't use the G7 where I would use my Sony like at a drinking party or when I'm working on my car and my hands are covered in grease.
If it doesn't sell I have no problem keeping it, but cash is so very nice when you have no job and are going to school

Hmmm... just comparing the No-Flash photos of the fridge, it looks like the Canon'* white balance is better (the Sony is putting out a bit of an orange tint to the colors. Can you adj the balance on the Sony?)

Try different settings and what not as well.
The Canon will really help in low light, low speed situations with IS and the quicker lens. However, for $400, you're 3/4 of the way to a DSLR...

In my experience, my G7 has been amazing in social settings. I bought it because my DSLR was too annoying to carry around all the time at a party, and the G7 is a tough, metal thing that you don't have to worry about when you're drunk. In my opinion, I think those pictures weren't executed well, you have to take into account the optimal ISO for each camera, and then the aperture will give you different effects. Even from these shots, I'd take the Canon.

I was looking to trade in my Nikon D50 for a powershot G7 or G9, and came across yours. Just bought it this summer around July, and looking for something a little smaller. Just throwing the offer out there let me know if your interested.
