Hood release was melted thay had to pry open the hood I see.

yes...

and there was a recall on it back in 98 if im right.

it went bad and gas was getting into the upper intake and a spark could set it off and POOF.. your upper intake explodes and goes up in flames...

its happened to someone on this forum in OH i think.

Scotty Lake had that happen to his 98 SLE as well (but it was UIM related). I saw a GP SE on the hwy 2 months ago with the same engine fire, the dept had it out in minutes.
