i will give you the long version of the story

i sold the car to an employee of mine named J on friday night
Saturday morning J came to work and L (his friend) took the car.
Then about 12pm L called J and told him to report the car stolen
J called the police and said the car was stolen.
At about 12:30 J calles me and says the Police want to talk to me.
Police thought i stole the vehicle back
Police call me and they ask me if i know the camaro had been stolen
I say, the only thing i know is that L was driving the car and a tire fell off and hit a parked car
Police then go talk to J at work and he gets arrested for obstruction of justice and gets a $300 ticket.

When L was driving the car the tire flew off and hit a parked van in the door/quarter panel. After that he went and grabbed the tire and placed it in the car, locked the doors, and started walking away.

According to the letter i got, it did $3,175 in damage.

Called my lawyer and my insurance agent and neither are in right now

OMG! Doesn't that mean that you're off the hook? Since he was arrested and all? I hope you get out of this scam, because this sounds like a load of BS to me... Did he have anything to gain from this accident???

If not, kick both J and L in the nuts.... They've earned it. Package deal with the assholery of the car.

Why do you still have the title if you sold the car?
The bill of sale might not save you alone, I can write one up now with last weeks date on it... if you get my point. I used to do it all the time back when I couldn't afford sales tax - new bill of sale for a $100 car its not like they check back with the prior owner.

My guess would be that yours and J'* story must match pretty well if you stand a chance of having the judge beleive you. If you canacelled your insurance on the car the same day you sold it that would be more proof in your favor, get your agent to notorize a statement for you. You'll also have to give up L if you haven't already. (or what you know of him)

Also Insurance may still cover the car, depending on how long its been cancelled when the accident happened.

You may not want to recover the car. Since you're the last legal owner they may offer it back to you. But being in impound now theres the daily storage fee, the towing fee, possibly a release fee, and you will likely need to have it towed from impound. (btdt)

well lets see..

Bill of sale... Dated and Singed..
Title.... Dated and singed....

What do you have to worry about. The car is not yours. When there is a Bill of sale and a Title both dated and singed legally the car is not yours.

but the reason why you got the problem now is because they never went to the DMV and changed it over yet so when they looked up the make model and VIN it comes to your name right now.

Once you go down there and show them this you should be all cleared.

They can try and suspend your license for anything nowadays. I recently got a letter from the DMV, as part of a random sampling, and had to put my insurance policy number and company on it and send it back in. If I didn't do it within 30 days, they would suspend my license, regardless if I had insurance or not. It was actually addressed to my mom (her name is on the title above mine, it kept the insurance down as I was still a teenager). If I hadn't noticed what it was and just kept it until I saw her again, she or I, or both of us, would have had suspended licenses and not a clue as to why.
