I actually run an Advance Auto Parts and I'd like to chime in a bit. Unfortunately, the persons you have been dealing with at Advance aren't the brightest stars. Advance has a very limited selection of 'house brand' parts. In these tough economic times, the majority of consumers are going for our economy line (the widow makers). This, of course, enables our corporate chess players to stock more of the crappy products in the stores. It is sad, but, we all have the ability to get the good stuff. For chassis parts we have our house brand (crap), then TRW and Moog. Our Moog selection is about 2 times the size of our crap section in EVERY store. I can order and stock several Delphi, AC Delco, and Beck-Arnley for the educated consumer. I don't know why you couldn't get AC Delco tranny filters, I stock them.
I have seen several comments about our electrical products at Advance. The biggest thing I have seen with electrical parts coming back is misdiagnosis. If you happen to purchase an electrical part for a Ford (love 'em--they keep me in business!!!), Honda or Toyota, the BWD electrical parts are STAMPED with the factory logos and part numbers.... So they are only as crappy as the factory parts.
If you have any desire to get the best of the best, go into the stores and ask for the commercial parts pro and ask that team member if they have a line card. This is a LIST of all the manufacturers that we deal with and these employees are the most experienced and have the best knowledge of how to get the stuff--although you may have to wait on them a while because they are very busy!
If you need part numbers or help e-mail me! huxley05@gmail.com. I'll need year, make, model, engine and part.

Nice take on the situation Bill. I can't slam Advance or AutoZone for being what consumers ask for in majority. Discount Parts is just that. And as I mentioned earlier here, when it'* a critical part that is going into my car that I normally drive harder than norm, I want a good one. Commercial Sales guys are always the ones to talk to. I had one recently tell me two things I didn't know. My Prius takes a special oil filter and it was cheaper to go get it from the Toyota Dealer than from "his guy".

Going to autozone and looking for auto advice is the same as going to bestbuy looking for computer advice. Only thing I ask those people for is where something is in their store.
