Here'* what I have. FUJI Film S5000
I paid around $300, 6MP Recording, based off of a new 3.1MP sensor. Instead of having square sensors on the CCD, the sensors are Octagon shaped, and see light more like our eyes. 4 AA batteries, and i use some great ones, 2300 mAH capacity, can charge fully in just over 2 hours...
It can be easy as a P&* camera, or a full on Manual SLR (wannabe). I'm coming from a Pentax Film SLR I still own. Frankly i would consider things other then Megapixels when comparing cameras as well. Watch the Product Demo.
Some other camera'* i considered were the Dimage Z2, and Canon AS or IS. The Dimage is nice if you want a responsive camera. The screen is a full 60FPS, and the camera turns on damn near instantly. But it felt cheaper, and didn't have as many features. The Canon was more expensive, and didn't really have much that made it more expensive but the Image stabilization.
