While I think the Canon SD series is probably better and preferential, I am very happy with my Canon A520. On the topic of batteries, if you get one without a battery pack, I definatly would use the recharagble batteries, I have some and they are the best thing ever. Plus if you were ever in the bind, it'* good to know you could just go buy regular ones and be up and running again (that'* why I actually prefer not having a battery pack). Only thing I'd check is whether the type of rechargable you have is okay for the camera, the name doesn't sound familiar to me so I'm wondering if they would be okay in a camera you might buy.

Thanks to ALL for your input and I have some informed info for trip to W World. I would love a SLR but my moneys tight for the rest of this Quater so I will certainly use your advice and only have to temper it to keep it under $300.

Got my cam today and very happy with it...I went to Wally World and looked them all over and with the help of an associate who actually sounded like he knew cameras choose the brand new version of Nikkon'* CoolPixs L2,( Went on the shelf the day before I went.$24 It has 6 Megapixels, shoots pics and video with mic and speaker for playback, 3X optical zoom, and lots of software which saved me from buying trail versions of photo viewing and editing on my new laptop. I did like the size and styling of the Canons, but for the same features as this one they were to much for my budget. Now I hope to get some clearer pics of my paint job tomorrow when I head for the custom shop. Thanks everyone for helping me make my choice
