What are you using for your aerating that I see? I want to aerate my pond- but have not found a low cost solution. ALso note that a small lake had a huge fish kill this winter because of lack of winter aeration- not ice.

Dan, that'* an awesome pond. Venom, your yard is bigger than my house. I'm a little jealous of the both of you.

I made that fountain myself. An 1/3 HP Lowes sump pump that has a 1 1/4 threaded discharge. I used an 1 1/4 threaded to 1 1/4 smooth coupling on the pump, glued a 5 foot length of 1 1/4 PVC pipe to that, then glued a cap on the pipe. Drilled 4) 3/8th'* hole into the cap at a 60 degree (or so) angle. Put the pump and all in a tall kitty litter bucket and filled it with broken pieces of cinderblock. I cut the plug off the end of the cord (because the cord wasn't long enough to reach the shore) and used an underwater electrical splice kit to connect it to a 30 foot length of well service wire (underwater rated) which I put a plug on. I put my chest waders on and place it in the center of the deep end of the pond every spring and pull it every fall. Total cost was a little over $100 vs a comparable "fountain setup" going for well over $1000. I illuminate it at night with a blue floodlight attached to the eave of my back deck.
