I feel safe to live in Canada as we have regulations on guns, and we have what, 160 murders a year in all of Canada as a result of that?

Nothing changes though, still a every crazy American has a gun(*)
Heil Bush!

That story makes me sick, ive never heard of something like that ever
It'* got nothing to do with Bush. It'* got everything to do with our history. Up until lately, guns were an integral part of our cuklture. When the country was being formed, and the nearest town could be 2-3 days ride away, the only way to eat was to own a gun and gather your own meat.

Granted, these days, guns are a "luxury", but there is no way to get rid of them all, or reliable screen who gets hold of one. As much as I'd like to see better control, there just is no "fair" way to do this at this point

Let'* see here......make private gun ownership illegal like Austrailia and England. Law-abiding citizens turn them in, but the criminals don't. Violent crime rates skyrocket just like in the two countries I mentioned.

Heil Bush? What has every dictator in the past 100 years done within weeks of gaining control? Disarm the population. Ask yourself why.

When Oregon passed it'* concealed carry law, it saw an immediate reduction in violent crime rates the first 5 consecutive years of the law. Just like every other State before it. Ask yourself why.

160 murders a year? What'* the population in comparison?
Murder will be committed regardless of the tools used. If a killer can't get a gun, he'll use a knife or baseball bat. But a mugger or rapist certainly doesn't relish the thought of an armed victim.

Matt, I'd like to respectfully (seriously....very respectfully) suggest that the liberal Canadian media doesn't cover the part of the data that doesn't support their opinions south of the border. And I'd like to ask you also if hunting is legal in Canada, and if it is, how is your situation any different in this case?

Well put Bill! I have to agree on everything you've stated. If someone is going to kill- a gun is just one option out of many.

It'* not the guns that are the problem...it'* the culture. We (in the US) live in a society that places no importance on the family, and kids are being raised in abusive, broken families and growing up seriously disturbed. Anywhere the family unit is alive and well, there are far less of these kinds of problems.

Oh, and well put Bill (as was already said, but I wanted to second it)...you took the words out of my mouth.

There are more guns in Canada per capita then in the US, we have 7 million registered/unregisterd firearms for 30 million people, that makes 1 in 4

The difference is, we dont shoot each other.

Tragic story none the less.

The 7.62x39 aka 7.62 russian is actually lower powered than a 30-30.
Don't get confused by metric designations. A 7.62x51 = 7.62 nato = .308 winchester.

The most likly reson he had the weapon he had is because the rifle and ammunition are cheap.

I won't get into the gun control debate, it'* too much of a hot button for me so, i'll let calmer people deal with it.
