Default Computer Techie question :)

I'm stomped...

A while ago I decided to add [another] case fan to my PC....I shut it off...opended it up...used a air blower to get the dust out....put in the fan [no, gloves - on carpet - bad i know] and went to start it with nothing....

All the PC does is turn on, it won't actually boot up. I get lights, fans, but the status light stays soild. The MB has been switched out, and we tested the power supply, and the RAM, and processor to no avail....anyone else have this problem before?

Check for lose screws that might cause a short, also try unplugging the extra accessories (you might have too much for your power supply). How many watts is your power supply?

Sorry for the late reply.

I'm postin from a comp that'* hooked up to a TV downstairs...so its only available when its not being used lol.

Anyway, I've tried almost everything sugggested lol. I haven't set & reset everything in the MB, but wouldn't the same thing been accomplished when I totally switched the MBs?

As for shorts, we're gonna try to see if everything runs outside of the case pretty soon to see if that'* the problem.

The PC doesn't show the BIOS screen...it doesn't even interact with the monitor through the video card.

Oh, and the Power Supply is for 450W.

I hate to be the one to say it but wrist straps save machines...

I would start at reseating the cpu, reseting the cmosand basicly tear it down and rebuild it.

Did you pull the video card, make sure the slot and the video card'* contacts are clean. Make sure your ram is seated properly. Along with your ATX power, IDE, floppy cables, you can even unplug those for testing, any extra expansion cards? pull them out see if it turns on. I have found sometimes that having the case lights, speaker, reset, and power all hootked to the motherboard can cause SOME system to not post. Try leaving just the power switch plugged to the motherboard. Still no picture? try clearing the cmos, unplug the power cord, Press the power button once to make sure it drains the leftover power(Always good to be sure) Then jump the 3-Pin jumper near the Battery on the motherboard, It may be on say jumper 1-2, connect it to 2-3 (could be the other way around) for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, now put it back the way it was and try to turn your pc on again. If this still doesn't work....

I myself would, and this is only last restort if still will not turn on, because I literally have had bad cases that would just short certain motherboard for some unknown reason, so Pull the motherboard and power and set the mobo up on a work bench or table on a cardboard box, if it turns on set up on the bench, you have case shorting problems. Hopefully you get it goin before this. just tryin to help ya out
