Default Computer monitor help

I have a Viewsconic VA2012wb monitor that was connector to my computer. I had an older computer that I wanted to get old files off of, etc, so I hooked that monitor up to the old computer, did what I had to do, and shut the computer down. Now, when I went to hookup the monitor back to my daily computer, I get no display. WTF. I can't even bring up any of the menus on the monitor to check settings. I just get "no signal" on the display. I hooked up an old monitor to my daily computer and IT works, but my VA2012wb does not. I thought maybe something was wrong with the monitor so i hooked it back up to the old computer and it works fine on the old one now, but not the new one. I just don't get it! Both computers have digital output on the video card, and I changed nothing on the monitor, yet it won't work on my daily computer, but it will on the old... and other monitors work on the daily computer as well. Any ideas? I'm totally stumped and have NO idea what would be causing this!

sounds like somehow the Rez changed on the Main PC.

Do you get the post screen or the BIOS screen on bootup on the monitor?

if not... turn off PC and Reseat the video card. then try again.

boot the pc up in safe mode and set the resolution. then reboot.
if you have to use the old mon to boot .. then set the res low 640 x 480 then connect the new mon..
monitor should support low res..
if that doesnt work do the opposite.. use old mon and set highest res possible
native on new mon is 1680x1050

Does your Daily computer have an other or built in video card? it may have defaulted back to that when it sensed no monitor. I've got a Compaq that does that.

Not even the BIOS screen was showing up which was the really weird part!

This is actually how I got it to fix... I set my screen resolution to 800x600 and VIOLA both monitors came to life. I about had a heart attack. haha. once my computer FINALLY detected my wide screen monitor (it wasn't before) I could FINALLY set my resolution to 1680 X 1050. Before, I couldn't even get that option.

Nope, good idea, but it only has the one video card. The card has two monitor ports on it however.

So long story short, the fix was to actually set my computer to the lowest possible resolution, then both monitors finally worked, then from there, since my computer finally recognized the monitor because it "woke itself up" from there, I was able to set the native resolution. I'm now happily browsing from my wide screen monitor again. thanks guys!!
