Default Chevy S10?

Looking at a truck right now, and i want to know what i should look for in this truck.

1989 S10
2.8l v6
5 spd standard
180k miles
orig engine
newer clutch/tranny

i have been in love with this truck even before i found out it is going to be sold. asking $1500 right now. looks great IMO, has ground effects, and after market wheels. hoping to get it and put a visor on it . also has a bit of an overhang from the cab going to the bed <aftermarket piece for looks, dont know what its called>

what normally goes wrong with these things? what should i be careful of? am i going to be disappointed going from the built ford tough tempo?

2.8 v6 sucks! I had one in an 85 Cherokee. I loved the body style, but mine had 160k, and it was a gutless wonder. Rebuilt the carb, tune up, etc, and I couldn't hit 55 mph in the 20 miles to school. I'm sure there are good ones out there, but I didn't get one.

The tailgate problems mentioned above are adjustment and lubrucation.

I have a buddy with the same options on a '93. Great work truck, 5th could stand a little more overdrive. Check your RPO'* (in the glove box) to get the rear end ratio. Lower numbers are slower off the line with better fuel economy. Injectors are a pain to get to.

My sisters' Camaro has the same engine too, 286K when it lost the oil pump.

I seriously recommend an eBay kit to put in H4 bulbs, it'* HAWT.

A 3800 will swap in with that tranny too I'm using a '92 S10 for parts for my swap, only difference is your tranny will have a mechanical speedo.

chadow427 the 2.8 in a cherokee and the 2.8 in a s10 are totaly different motors one is built by Dodge and the other by GM. And I hd a buddy witha 2.8 in his lowered blazer and it was alright for power. But I agree on the small block swap coment. Its cheep and easy.

Since the truck has probably always been at the equator where you are.. the normal rust and rot issues don't apply.

If it runs and drives good.. I'd go for it.

2.8L sucks butt! Get one with a 4.3L, them things never die. My dad has a 93 *-10 with the 4.3L and it has 286,400 miles on it and it wont die. He doesnt change the fluids or anything, and heck, I think it'* had the same oil in it for 3 years now lol.
