My company will insure a car that you don't own if you have care, custody, and control of it. If you no longer have an insurable interest in it and it is not titled to you, nor do you have care, custody, and control then you don't need to keep it insured. If you want to keep the discount buy another car to replace the lumina. If there is a claim with the lumina and the rightful owners there could be problems because insurance companies have a huge database that keeps up with who has what insurance and effective dates, etc.

Just do the right thing!

I don't understand it either but I go with it! I had full coverage on my Jeep and Comprehensive on the Bonneville because it was just being stored. The Bonneville's ins. cost $180/yr and the multi-car discount on the jeep was $230/yr. So if I had only insured the Jeep I would loose the multi-car discount and it would have cost me $50/yr more than the total of the Jeep + Bonneville.

It's just like airline tickets. Buying round trip is often cheapr than buying one way. Some things are unexplainable.

at one point I was going to drop the full coverage on the cars... And go to liability only...

after I found out the price difference, i decided to stay with Full coverage... And they are under a multi car discount.. ;)

I called Progressive last night. I talked to a lady anonymously and told her with extreme detail the predicament I was in. She explained that it was illegal, and gave me the exact name of the law, however, she said there is no real way to track it unless he gets in an accident, and even then, it would be very rare that it would come back to me. She said if she was in my shoes, she would take the coverage off of it. I agree'd with her and I went online and took the lumina off today. My insurance premium will increase $60 for 6 months now. Oh well. :P

all that was for only $10 a month?

harofreak00 09-14-2007 11:09 AM

give me $10/month and i'll gladly delete this thread ;)

Hey, we learned something, that's worth $60 to someone.

Makes sense to me that it's illegal. It would be like claiming your adult children as exemptions on your tax return even though they are 40 years old and have their own family. It's basically fraud.
