Okaaaaay...what program opens when you play an audio CD or a DVD? I didn't say that they wouldn't play, I said that MS has tied it all into Media Player. If you are happy with that, then you should have no complaints.

I also have not said that there is anything wrong with XP in gerneral. I use it myself. My caution for others is not to let Microsoft configure everything for you. The average Joe will be quite happy with XP as it comes loaded out of the box. You should just be aware how much MS is keeping an eye on everything you do. Have you noticed that when you click on HELP, XP tries to contact Microsoft. This is only one of the many ways MS is starting to collect data from your system.

Specifically, Media Player 9 is the beginning of the end for user configurable free-use software. Microsoft is using this to start the control and monitoring of every type of media you access, whether music or video. Maybe not today, but soon you will not be able to access any digital media file without MS logging the use and OK'ing it.

Yea, I know, a little doom'* day, but don't say I didn't warn you.

XP Pro sells for the same price as 2000 Pro, but XP Pro gives you all the auto-detecting and drivers.

I found XP Pro on Newegg.com for somewhere around 150.

Media Player 9 never comes up, I use Real One Player for my mp3 music. Yes I like that auto detecting plug-and-play feature, a little message will pop up telling you what it has find. Just with switching over you'll probably have to reinstall a few things for XP cause some of it won't work from your old OS. And yes it'* not cheap my brother got it for cheaper cause he'* in collage and he needed it for his homework, we got XP Pro, and XP office, stuff that would cost alot for not a lot of money.

Hey, whatever you like is ok with me. Just making my suggestions based on my opinion. Didn't mean to start a ford/chevy argument here. I'm just trying to offer an idea, I don't need to be right nor win anyone over.
