i completely agree ryan. I will look for a good program, and if paul wants to be the special one and have it be his server that hosts it, thats fine. the improvement is about the program not the server. So all us tech heads, lets get to looking.

Yes I get it, you are asking for input of what could be better.

but your statement remarks on the server we have now.

If someone can find me a Free chat program that can Be hosted on a web server or on any PC. I will host it and run it.
Cuz i tired of chat never working right or getting kicked out or locking up or what not.
we have a system here. and that is not how its done,.

all due respects.

Folks first off the chat room is only a supplement to the forums which is and always be the first priority to this club.

Second, there was a growing request and I saw that I could help out so I stepped up and I created a chat room.

Third I have had conversations with the owner of the Bonneville Club who indicated that as he continues to develop and grow the forums one of his plans is to incorporate a chat room into the forums and ultimately this will be the permanent home for the chat room.

Ok, last. Let'* address everyone'* complaint about the chat room being buggy, the kicks etc. The chat room is a Java based script, it'* not perfect and is only as good as the most recent java software you have installed on your local machine. There is a know issue with the java scroll bar handler in older version of Java. I have the most recent version from Sun installed and I never get kicked, NEVER.

Ok, let'* address the lag, the chat room is hosted on a multi homed server through my hosting service. As most of you know during high traffic times and the demand on the server you may experience lag, there is no way to avoid this. If it becomes unbearable then I suggest taking a break and coming back to it a short time later.

The Admin'* have the last say on the chat room. Convince them you have a better way and assure them you will commit to it long term and I am sure they will listen to you but for now this is what we have.

I personally (somewhat) take offense to the above quote. And the content of this topic as a whole.

Do you think the Staff of this Forum are uninvolved in the Chatroom entirely?

Paul set up the current chat format with the BLESSING and APPROVAL of all 3 Administrators of this Forum, and it was designated as the 'recognized and official' chat format.

I have personally seen over a dozen at a time with no issues.

Any changes will have to go through the Admins HERE, and WE out of COURTESY will handle it with Paul at that point.

Any questions? Our current chatroom is an integral part of this Forum. Any changes to it will NOT be on a whim.

Any suggestions or potential changes to this Forum are typically channelled through the Admins of this Forum via PM or SUGGESTIONS. This is typically the best method, and prevents pissing off an Admin when someone begins making plans to change something the Admins put in place, and it prevents pissing off the CURRENT Admin of the chatroom, Paul, who has been providing this service for quite some time.

This is an insult (in the manner it was handled and posted) to Paul, who has been hosting our chat that each one of you has been using for quite some time. Never at any point in this discussion was he contacted (or an Admin).

Someone owes Paul an apology and thanks for the service he'* been providing.
