Default Back to working out

Some of you may remember last year I started working out pretty constant and pretty seriously. Mostly cardio.. Elliptical is nice, the AMT (Precor 100i, look it up) is one mean piece of equipment that I worked my way up to a respectable level on.

Hopped back into it on Sunday after about six months off.. Elliptical for almost an hour 875 calories. Monday shoveled a roof for 3 hours, Yesterday back on the Ellip for the hour plus 5 min cooldown with 965 calories.

Anyone else doing some good exercising?

I should... maybe when it gets warmer I'll start running. I should sign up for the city parks' gyms as well. Only 70 dollars a year or so. Weight loss is a good way to get the fuel economy up.

How many calories does it take to dig a car out of the snow?

Yep! I took a pain pill about 7, shoveled a scant two inches of snow, dusted off the wife'* car and my truck, had a couple cups of special coffee. Just hauled some more firewood into the wood room, stoked the furnace. took the dogs out while I warmed up the truck. Now I'm taking another pill, picking up Wild Bill and headed for a 12 pack and Tripp Lake where I'll be sippin and augering 10-20) 4" holes through a foot of ice. Depending on how the fish are biting. Can't say what we will catch, but a "buzz" is guaranteed. We don't need fancy machinery/pay a "club" to get our CardioVasculary workouts in Purgatory. Life here just seems to provide them free of charge. And often in a pleasurable manner.

its a hard thing to do. it took me 6yrs almost 7 to lose 125lbs going from a 64 waist down to a 48, and 3 of those 6 to start training for amateur strongman. im still not quite there yet but i am proud to say that come spring i will be training to roll little imported shitboxes. i can already pull a ford excursion hand over hand and wearing a harness. its VERY hard but im getting there slowly but surely. plus being a musician, washing/waxing the car burns alot of my calories too. keep up the good work!

Well, with all the car stuff etc that I do,... I still need to keep eating to the right proportions or hit the gym.

A 1,000 calories (what I strive for) in an hour is a workout. Dakota, think your in shape.. find a Precor 100i and give it a whirl. I don't call it the machine of death for kicks. It really is.

Bill, I work out daily as part of my job requirements. Kudos for starting back up. A few things I would add to the comments is to always start very slow when resuming a suspended workout routine. Not just for any physical risk, but after a suspended workout a hard start usually plays motivation issues. In under a month you will be on track as long as you start slow.

For dieting, I find a easy plan is to simply eat nothing fried, consume nothing with refined sugars and avoid carbs. Add that to a minor strength training and steady cardio routine and the weight will change and you will be buying smaller pants.

Finally, I drink a lot of slim fast. It is cheap, always available and keeps me from cheating at Taco Bell or the Quickie mart when I have a crave. A six pack of slim fast is a good thing to keep in the car and at work.
