Default Attention GM gurus! I FIXED IT!!!

1995 Pontiac Sunfire GT. Starts, idles really really crappy. Computer said MAP Sensor voltage high. Replaced MAP sensor. Same story. Seems as though it is out of time. Replaced a bad waterpump that was shot beyond belief. Possible belief that when the pump was removed it took some tension out of the timing chain/belt thing (The pump would barely turn by hand and had been driven that way for weeks.) which caused it to jump timing... Ticking/grinding reported prior to water pump failure on start up. Not present now. Any thoughts or suggestions?

P.*. It ran fine prior to the water pump replacement.

Most likely the tensioner went bad or the chain is stretched.

Timing was never messed with. The drive gear for WP has a spined shaft set up. You just grease the shaft on the WP and slide it in. What I was saying is, is it possible that with that other water pump so bad off that it greated a lot of tension. Nothing was ever done to adjust the timing in any way. Went over everything twice with three people to find any sensors that may have been left unplugged. Nothing. Only other thing done at the time was new plugs and the little boot things on that crazy *** ignition module thing.

Jr. The nasty engine mount on the front of that engine has three bolts holding it to the block. How the crap do I get those out without pulling the engine or dropping the sub frame? Believe me, a hole saw has crossed my mind on this one... Any suggestions? I can get them backed out but they just hit the fender well.

P.*. Thanks for the vote of confidence on setting timing. I sorta assumed that after I read the manual. How do I get that blasted cover off though?!

As in, just loosen the plate and then take the timing cover off? BRILLIANT! I don't think I can torque it back on then, but I think I'll manage... If that'* what you're suggesting, that'* what I'm doing. I just don't want to tear it down to the cams and then find out that'* not it.
