Went over everything twice with three people to find any sensors that may have been left unplugged. Nothing. Only other thing done at the time was new plugs and the little boot things on that crazy A$$ ignition module thing.
Jr. The nasty engine mount on the front of that engine has three bolts holding it to the block. How the crap do I get those out without pulling the engine or dropping the sub frame? Believe me, a hole saw has crossed my mind on this one... Any suggestions? I can get them backed out but they just hit the fender well.
P.*. Thanks for the vote of confidence on setting timing. I sorta assumed that after I read the manual. How do I get that blasted cover off though?!

Hence why i feel you have walked into a mine field and the reason I do not own a Quad...lol
We in the past have actually unbolted mounts, and I forget if we screwed with the subframe... we managed to jack the engine all around Via a board of wood and managed the bolts out...A royal PITA..
If you remove the torque axis mount bolts at the fender well, it should allow you to move the engine up and down with a jack and ofcourse the old trusty board of wood... If memory serves that ggave us just enough room to get the bolts out( don't quote me on that )... Been a while seince I have played with a Quad...
and to get that cover off you will have to have a puller to pull the crank pulley, I don't remember if an idler has to be removed or not... I don't think the alternator is in the way..
Again its a PITA

Got a crank pulley puller(did Big_News_1'* cam, remember?). Only thing I don't have is the pins for the cams. I'd think I could get some roll pins and use those. Also, I like just jacking it way way up. Sounds sooo much simpler. Do you remember if you unhooked the dog bone thingee on bottom prior to this?

Seems like a late fire. Runs better in the upper revs though. Know any ways to test the ignition piece aside from buying a new one? Oh wait, find someone else who has one and borrow it... duh. Doubt I can do that buuuuut... I'll see. Maybe pull the plugs and see what that says. Guy that owns the car started it and said it sounds like it'* backfiring through the intake manifold(timing again?). But it isn't a consistent thing. Minefield indeed.....

You aren't going to take this apart are you? You check everything already? I don't want to see you go through all of this if you don't have to...
And being curious here, How many miles are on the old sunfire?

one thing to check is the fuel persure reg when mine took a dump on my 2.3 it was just poring fuel in the plenum ad doing like what you are saying get to top end and ran like stink but was dead on botom just pull the vac hose off and see whats up lol cant hurt
I should also say that I was kneeling on the top of the engine(on that ignition module plate no less) for extensive times while I fought with caked on gasket material from the WP to block surface....
Will do. I too do not want to fight the damned timing cover any more than I want to think about it. Only time I want something to do with cam timing is when it comes to performance. That, this is not.
