Arizona Windshield Question...

Dammit.... I'm sorry Scott, I totally forgot to ask them
There was such a freakin' line at the MVD that I spaced off and didn't even think about it. I would guess that maybe you could call or email as per the contact information on the site I linked in my previous post. But from what you describe, I'm almost sure they would make you address the issue if it'* directly in your field of vision and a foot long.
Again, I apologize for being so forgetful...

Sorry, Scott. I don't have the information either. Never tried taking a vehicle in with a cracked windshield. Let me know if I can help.

bob, ben, and the rest:
here'* the exact situation i'm in. i sold my buick and my bonnie. bonnie was black on black...couldn't take it to az. i leave on monday the 13th to drive down to az. i need a decent car to get me there...once i get there, i'll probably buy something nice as soon as i get a job situation worked out. in the meantime..to keep my cash fluid, i bought a $250 1991 toyota camry dx from a friend who had it sitting around and who thought the car didn't run. 1 battery and O2 sensor later, the car is running fine. problem is, the windshield is cracked in several places...some of the cracks are 12 inches long. seeing as the car has 285,000 miles on it, i do not care to put any more money into it other than the $30 battery and $30 O2 sensor. if i drive it to AZ, then i will have to put a new windshield in it. not an option right now. i can easily sell the car here in MI for $500 (kbb values it at $1500 in poor condition...which it'* not), and MI doesn't have inspections. so i could make $250 on the car, and buy something else that will pass inspections. but the problem is, i am leaving monday...which gives me approx. 4 business days to get a car, title, plate, and insure it before i leave. and i'd really like to spend as little as possible...something for a grand or less would be nice until i know my job situation in AZ. this will leave a sizable junk of money in the bank for me to live off of while i get a job. any ideas?

not sure how the law works but if your car is plated as a MI car and you're in AZ i'd immagin you could just drive it down t here and sell it in AZ and buy one that would pass their inspection. you wouldn't be able to register your current car there cause of the windshield but how long can you be there before you have to change all that? just a thought :?

Yup.....looks like the windshield would need to be replaced to register the vehicle in Az.
Physical Inspection of the Vehicle
The make, vehicle identification number (VIN), body style and other general vehicle information must be verified at an MVD or authorized Third Party office prior to registration. In addition, if there are obvious safety or mechanical flaws, registration may be denied until repairs are completed.
From the Arizona Drivers License Manual: "Vehicles must have a windshield (without cracks)....
Resident Definition
State law requires that you obtain a driver license and registration immediately if any one of the following apply. If you:
Work in Arizona (other than for seasonal agricultural work)
Place children in school without paying the tuition rate of a nonresident
Have a business with an office in Arizona, and that bases and operates vehicles in this state
Obtain a state license or pay school tuition fees at the same rate as an Arizona resident
Have a business that operates vehicles to transport goods or passengers within Arizona
Remain in Arizona for a total of 7 months or more during any calendar year, regardless of your permanent residence
An "out-of-state student" enrolled with 7 or more semester hours is not considered a resident, even if employed.
Military personnel based in Arizona who qualify for exemption under the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Act are not considered Arizona residents.
Since the definition of residency appears somewhat connected to employment, I suppose you could always drive it down and not register it immediately while you are looking for a job. Until you get a job, it appears that you are not a resident.

Take it from me (since I just moved down here), don't be in a huge rush to get your car registered. I got here May 17th, and just got my new license and registration yesterday. Nobody will know if you're living here permanently or just visiting. Take your time, and do what you need to do once you get here. No hurry
