As for the paramedic comment, are you a paramedic? and you are making over 60K a year?? Because i have several freinds who are paramedics and are in the nursing program now and i know for a fact they make 10-12 dollars an hour. Even for a private company it is still 12 dollars an hour.
Yes, I am a paramedic. I'm very surprised at the wages there. Not all services pay what I make, however there are also several that pay more.

As an example, here is a link to a collective agreement (public information) for one of the services in our health region. Typically private companies here pay much less than municipalities.

what kind of schooling do you have to do to be a paramedic there though?

Trying to get back to the intent of your question... If medicine is your field of interest, I wouldn't worry too much about a specialty yet (although it never hurts to set some goals). There are many areas you may become interested in while going through medical school (I'm assuming you have not yet done this). This is a huge field and what seems like countless specialties. Is there something in particular that attracts you to anesthesiology?

Long answer short, to reach paramedic level about three years including clinical rotations. I'm happy to PM you more info if you're interested (just so we don't completely take over this thread).
