Default Am I right to be offended

I am a Security Officer and I get offended when I get called a guard. Is that stupid. Security guards are persons who are entry level security persons with no or little training, Security Officers are person in security with tons of certifications and training. So far I have hazmat awareness cert., Expandable baton and oc cert, PEMA Terrorism training, Pa right to know training, I have my PA ACT 235 Lethal Weapnons training which includes pa crimes code, handcuffing, firearms combat training and stuff like that, and come Jan 28th I will have my CPR and AED cert. I get P*ssed when I am called a security guard, is that stupid?

Not necessarily, if you have achieved something with credibility, then it should be acknowledged...officer

But most people make lazy generalizations all the damn time

Most people do not know the difference, so they are not being demeaning when they call you a guard. You and the people you work for know the difference, the rest don't.

that the only difference between a security officer and police officer, power to arest, we can make arests, but the police are the ones that haul them to jail. I got alot of my training through the police academy. Security officers go though the same, if not more training than some police do. Jims right, people just make lazy generalizations. We hold alot more authority thank you think though, if we arest someone, you can bet your backside that our friends at the pd will show no mercy when they arived. To the college students, we hold there future in our hands, if they fail to pay our fines, they dont get there grades or sign up for classes untill they pay.

we also get called rent a cops. rent a cops are persons who work for a security agency that sites hire to do security for a temporary amount of time. thus they RENT the officer.

Guards are all good people trying to make a living, they lack the training . I have nothing against guards, or rent a cops, however I have had more training than you can shake a stick at, thus I have earned the respect of being called officer. So I do get offended when I am called guard. I am not an under trained and underpaid security person. I will make 30k per year once full time, and by that time, I will have even more training than I do now.

yeah, its nice, I used to be a guard for a security agency for less than 20 k . Right now I am only at 15k part time, but I got all the training and certifications for free, plus once I go up to 30k this july or so it will be nice
