Lounge For casual talk about things unrelated to General Motors. In other words, off-topic stuff. And anything else that does not fit Section Description.

Am I the only one that notices this?

If it'* not just a cover, then it'* most likely a tuned intake as mentioned.
Well, it'* obvious it'* not the cover, otherwise it would be plastic as well.

If the "tuned Intake" one of the major differences between the S3 and the 3.9 V6 (Other than the .1 liters bigger)

And with the long length of that tube it'* obviously for low RPM, hence keeping the image of the V6 stump puller.

One marketing person probably asked to get rid of it. One engineer said he needed it for his intake runner length. Another marketer said it looks cool so lets make it a cutout through the engine cover.

but if they would have designed it to have either variable length runners or a variable diameter, then that tuned port could bennifit a much larger rpm range.

95nasta knows a lot about the tuned /variable port stuff.

Well..that single bolt in the center give the impression it may be a cover. Typically an intake isn't held on in such a fashion. Although it can be part of the bolting pattern.

A turbo would be part of the exhaust stream and too hot to be mounted under a plastic shield as seen in the pic.

Man it would pretty much suck to work on that engine.
